Our team, consisting of Annebel Breij, Anna Bänffer, Tomas Gecevičius, Leo Gerritse, Mingco Glastra, Heleen Smeets and I coalesced the ideas we had developed in the scope of the assignment into a single form. Based on the prototypes built for demo day, we built the final installation with the help of several Eindhoven-based artists and manufacturers. I worked mainly on graphic design: designing icons for the 'Wheel of Transport' and the panel 'Map your Journey' as well as programming and developing 'Bike to the Future' to completion.
Doing this meant I learnt a lot, parallel to the university curriculum. I learnt a lot about taking a project beyond a prototype and making it able to withstand real world conditions like weather, transport, assembly and disassembly. The biggest challenges were in transitioning from being a student project to being a group of employed, independent designers. In my experience this changed the responsibilities and dynamics of working with others on this project. The initial installation we built travelled around Eindhoven in the summer of 2019 attending Eindhoven Airport, The Feelgood Market, Dutch Technology Week, Park Hilaria and various other locations on schools, squares and shopping malls around Eindhoven city. Since then, we have continued our collaboration with Eindhoven Museum and SOEPS, and adapted the contents and activities of our installation to fit the themes '75 years of Freedom' (winter 2019) and '100 years of Eindhoven' (summer 2020).
